The Office of Developmental Disability Ombuds team attended the 2024 Community Summit. The team attended workshops, had an outreach table for the people to visit, and presented at multiple workshops.
The first presentation was called Supporting Self-Advocacy-Everyone Can Do It! Tim McCue, DD Ombuds Self-Advocacy Educator lead discussion about how everyone can support people with intellectual and developmental disability becoming self-advocates. Tim offered tips and strategies for people to advocate for themselves and how parents and providers can better support individuals to be their own advocate.
Lisa Robbe participated in a workshop led by Emily Rogers of the Developmental Disability Council discussing emerging issues in the state of Washington. Lisa discussed the way the DD Ombuds interacts with people who utilize both DDA services and behavioral health services.
The final presentation the DD Ombuds was a part of included Noah Seidel and was about how more people can use Supported Decision-Making Agreements. This presentation was done by a group of self-advocates talking about their work using support decision making and how more people can get support to use supported decision-making agreements in Washington.
