September 8th was the 45th state convention of People First of Washington. They held the convention in Ellensburg, at the Central Washington University, home of the Wildcats. The DD Ombuds office hosted a resource table and two workshops at the convention.

The first workshop was the Half Decade of DD Ombuds. People First members heard about the good work that the DD Ombuds team has done over the last six years. People in the audience asked questions to the regional Ombuds about their work.

The second workshop was about voting! The workshop, “The Vote is Right”, was a quiz that showed members how to vote and what to do if they need help voting. People from Kittitas County and the Secretary of State’s Office brought an accessible voting unit to show, and talk about all of the features.

If you are interested in one of those presentations for a group of people with I/DD in your area, or a different presentation about self-advocacy, contact the self-advocacy educator at tim@ddombuds.org.
