We all know that fictional universes like the Marvel Cinematic Universe have mass followings. However, many dedicated fans with disabilities are disappointed that there is a lack of disability representation in the media. Disability representation in sci-fi is usually limited to characters who have lost limbs. Obviously, in these popular universes’, representation is important. Representation allows fans to see themselves in characters, feel accepted by the media, and help others understand the disabled perspective.

As a result, fans with disabilities have been taking it upon themselves to write Fan Fiction that include disability representation. Fan fiction are fan stories that expand on characters from famous franchises. These stories range from imagining what famous characters like Iron Man would be like if they had disabilities, to imagining what disabilities a vampire in Twilight might have.

These fan fictions are so important as they help bring awareness to disability issues in the fictional and real world.
