The Community Summit was virtual this year. A social-sexual ecologist named Shanya Luther gave an online presentation about healthy relationships and healthy sexual development. She has 20 years of experience writing and speaking about this topic. Shanya supports everyone’s need to have meaningful relationships.
Everybody has a right to safe, healthy, and fulfilling relationships. It takes work to navigate these relationships. The Arc of King County has a Healthy Relationships Program that offers education and support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who want help with their relationship building skills. They have a resource line, workshops, and a healthy relationships school program. Some concepts they cover are consent, privacy, boundaries, healthy sexuality, and trauma-informed care.
