The Office of Developmental Disabilities Ombuds created a presentation to help people better understand issues of abuse and neglect in the disability community. The presentation covers why this is an important issue facing the disability community, shares information about the prevalence of abuse, neglect and sexual violence, why it happens in our community, and what can be done if people experience abuse or neglect. This is done by sharing resources and strategies that the Washington state DD Ombuds and other advocacy groups have used to support people in their communities.

The DD Ombuds recently presented to the national SABE conference to an audience of self-advocates, parents, providers, and other advocates. The audience had questions about how to spot abuse and what to do if you think you, or somebody you know, experiences abuse or neglect.

The DD Ombuds can present to groups around Washington State who would like to receive this information.
