The Office of Developmental Disabilities Ombuds strives to cover all of Washington State. We have been outreaching to different communities to inform them about the services of the DD Ombuds and how we are here to help people with Developmental Disabilities.
The DD Ombuds took part of a reverse job fair and resource fair for Clallam County in Port Angeles. The reverse job fair gave people with Developmental Disabilities the opportunity to create resumes and displays that showcase their strengths and then employers came to them to talk about what jobs they are looking for. This model of a job fair is helpful for people with developmental disabilities because they take away some of the pressure by having a presentation set up and the employers coming to them.
The DD Ombuds had a resource table set up downstairs at the resource fair. We were able to introduce ourselves to members of the community, providers, local advocates, and state workers. We answered questions and passed out resources to attendees from surrounding areas during the day.
People were excited to learn about the DD Ombuds and appreciated that we were coming to them at an event in their community!
